Clutter has a very nasty habit of building up quickly, even just a few weeks or even days after you’ve gone through the effort of doing some spring cleaning. There are, however, ways to help ensure that your home maintains a clutter free environment, and it doesn’t involve any extraordinary effort on your part. The following are a few tips and tricks you can keep in mind to help keep your home nice and tidy.

One of the most obvious sources of clutter is the sheer amount of stuff you have in your home. We tend to accumulate a lot of items as time goes on, and often a lot of these items end up being either neglected or unusable. If you find that a lot of the items in your home are just collecting dust in a corner, consider either donating them to charity, have them recycled or simply throw away any of the stuff you believe can’t be salvaged. Not only will this reduce the amount of clutter in your home, it will also free up storage space for all the other items you have.

If you’re thinking of storing away most of the stuff you use rarely into boxes, be sure to label each one properly. Rummaging through various boxes in search of a particular item defeats the purpose of storing them carefully, and just creates a whole new set of clutter that you’ll want to avoid. Mark each box legibly, and if possible list all the items in it so you won’t have to open it to know what’s inside.

Clutter tends to build up the longer you put off cleaning, and a great way to avoid this is to establish a cleaning routine to help avoid a larger mess in the long run. An hour or two a week or breaking this down into 15-30 minutes daily of putting things back to where they belong keeps your home nice and tidy and helps nip any clutter in the bud.

If you find there’s just not enough space in your home to store your items in, renting a budget self storage unit to provide additional storage may be a good idea. Not only do these units offer inexpensive storage space, they are also made to keep your items safe from any potential damage.

It doesn’t really take much effort to keep your home clutter free. The tips above may seem simple, but you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how effective they can be. With just a bit of discipline and some proper organization, clutter can become a thing of the past.

For those trying to keep a clutter free house, attics are usually on the top of the list of rooms that need the most cleaning. By their nature, attics become the go-to storage spaces for everything from seasonal decorations to family heirlooms. Clearing all that clutter, built upon by months, if not years of constant storage, can certainly seem daunting, but it doesn’t need to be. The following are a few suggestions and tips you can use to help you clear out that attic and keep it clean without any additional stress.

Pen and paper may not seem like a necessary tool in attic cleaning, but if you want to keep your attic mess-free, then bring some along. One of the reasons attics become a jumbled mess, other than sloppy storage, is messy searching. If you don’t have any idea where something is, you tend to turn everything over to find it, causing more clutter and chaos. If you keep an inventory of where everything is, then you eliminate the random searching, cutting down on potential mess.

When you’re cleaning, it’s a good idea to organize all of your items into different piles. Items you use rarely should be stored separately than those you use regularly, so it’s best you know which is which. This also helps if you’re renting a budget self storage unit and are trying to figure out which items you’re going to send to storage. Even the things you want to get rid of can be organized into either donate, recycle, or throw away piles.

Once the cleaning is done and all the items in your attic are neatly organized into separate boxes and bins, putting them back properly is the key to keeping your attic clutter free. Things you use regularly should be stored in easy to reach places and items you use rarely can be safely stowed in the back of the room, or in a budget self storage unit to minimize clutter in your home and keep your items safe from damage.

These tips may be simple, but they can greatly help keep your attic clutter free. Keep them in mind during your spring cleaning and attic clutter may become a thing of the past.

Anyone who has lived in a small apartment knows how storage space is rather limited. It takes no time at all for clutter to build up just form the various knick knacks we acquire through the years, and the only way to avoid it is to make sure they’re stored properly. The following suggestions and tips can help you make the most out of your limited space and offers ideas to maximize storage in your small home.

One of the first things you need to do is to find out how much space you actually have available. Having the blueprint of your home is the best case scenario, but even if you don’t, a piece of graph paper and a measuring tape will do the job just fine. Measure both the width and the height of your available storage spaces to give you an idea of just how much space you have to work with.

If you’re going to be storing things for an extended period of time, make sure your containers will be able to withstand prolonged storage. Plastic bins work the best, but cardboard boxes are serviceable as long as they’re not too flimsy. The last thing you want is for a whole bunch of items getting damaged because the box wasn’t up to par.

Self Storage Unit at Ray Self Storage Facility

A great way to maximize the available space in your storage areas is to install shelving. It provides several levels of additional storage and is readily available in any home improvement store. If you’re thinking about getting several shelves or a cabinet, consult your layout to ensure that you get one that fits.

If you feel you’re constantly running out of space to store things, and you’re not willing to throw any of your items away, consider renting a budget self storage unit to house most of your stuff. These units are safe, inexpensive, and will give you the much needed space to store even the most bulky of your items without too much fuss, a definite lifesaver for those with small apartments.

Small homes may offer several storage challenges, but as long as you put some effort and creativity in it, they’re not hard to overcome. The tips above are just a small fraction of the available ideas out there, but should be enough to start you on your way in organizing your small apartment.

Clutter may be one of the easiest things to avoid, but if taken for granted, may become one of the most daunting tasks someone has to deal with. There are various reasons for the build up of clutter, and many of those are so mundane it can be surprising as to why many people let it get out of hand. Here are a few suggestions and tips you can take to mind in order to control clutter in your home.

One of the main things you should remember, especially if you’re actually cleaning up, is to properly organize everything. Don’t just pile stuff up in one place. All you’re doing is hiding the clutter and increasing the chance you’ll misplace things you’ll have to spend hours finding later. Don’t take shortcuts.

Sometimes tackling clutter build up requires more than one person, so ask everyone who can to help. It helps finish the job faster and reminds everyone how bad it is to let things get out of hand. Having regular schedules for cleaning also helps make it a routine and prevents any small mess from escalating into full blown chaos.

While cleaning, it’s a great idea to bring long several storage bins you can use to separate different items. Some items may need to be brought to different rooms of the house in order to store them properly, and doing this over and over will only just tire you, not to mention cause the cleanup to take longer. A few bins by your side as you sort out all your stuff helps keep things organized as you clean.

One of the best ways to remove clutter is to get rid of stuff either by recycling, donations or to just simply throw them away. If you find you don’t want to get rid of anything and yet still not have enough room in your garage or attic to hold your stuff, renting budget self storage units may be the next best thing. Most of them are inexpensive and can safely store away any items you only use occasionally. If you have a small home, but have too much stuff to store, budget self storage units may be your only choice.

The tips above are not the only ones out there, but they are a great start if you’re looking to de-clutter your home. Keep them in mind when you’re cleaning up to help ensure that you’re home never becomes a jumbled mess ever again.

Cleaning can often seem to be a difficult chore, especially if you’re dealing with the accumulated clutter of several days or even weeks of neglect. But no matter how daunting the task is, as long as you follow a few simple steps and don’t allow yourself to be distracted, tackling any room cleanup can be accomplished in a single day. Below are a few recommended step by step procedures you can follow to ensure that your task is completed faster.

The first step would be preparation. Choose a day where you’ll be free to do everything without any other distractions. Tell everyone you’ll be cleaning on that date, and if they don’t want to help, the least they could do is to make sure they don’t disturb you as you’re working.

Prepare several boxes either the day before or on the actual day of the cleanup. The number of boxes you need depends on how much stuff the room has, so make sure you have enough. You’ll be separating the items as you go into either a “get rid of” pile or a “keep” pile.

Before and After Cleaning and Organizing – Photo from The Way You Look at Me of Flickr

With the boxes prepared, divide the room you want to clean into four separate corners and choose the messiest one to start with. It’s always a good idea to start with the hardest tasks first as they make progress easier as you go along, also with the toughest corners done first you can easily see the job getting smaller as you keep going.

Separate items you want to get rid of into donate, recycle and throw away piles; this makes it easier to dispose of them later. The items that you choose to keep can be further separated into either regular use or rare use piles. The items you regularly use can be put back in place (or stored in the bin which is placed within easy reach), and the items you use rarely can either be put into the attic, garage, or if you don’t have extra space, in a rented budget self storage unit to be kept safely hidden until the time that you need them again. Once you follow these steps for all the corners of the room, all that’s left to do is to dispose of your “get rid of” piles.

As long as you follow these simple steps, even the most daunting cleanup can be accomplished in a single day. Following a process helps the work flow smoothly, allowing you to do more in less time.

Garages can become a notorious source of clutter, especially if one doesn’t keep them organized. Many people use garages as both parking spaces and storage sheds, it’s easy to imagine that after some time it can become a mess of garden tools, holiday decorations, sports equipment, and miscellaneous furniture. Clearing up all this clutter isn’t a hard task, no matter how daunting it may seem at first, all you need is the right process, and the mindset to see it through.

When cleaning out the garage, one of the first things you should do is arrange all your stuff into groups. Seasonal items like holiday decors and winter tools can be put in their own groups, while sports equipment and daily lawn and garden tools can be separated into their own groups. This makes it easier to arrange them when you put the items back into the garage. While you’re organizing your clutter, look for items that you can donate, recycle or throw away. There’s bound to be a few items in your garage that you’ll have no further use for.

Photo from saferacks.com

With your garage now empty, it would be best to draw a layout of your garage so you can easily choose which racks, shelves, or mini self storage bins you can get. Having all of your equipment separated and within easy reach prevents a re-build up of clutter and makes it easier to clean it in the future. Arrange the items that you use regularly in the front so you wouldn’t have to go all the way inside the garage to find them. Alternately, you can keep the seasonal items in the back or in high shelves so they’re out of the way when they’re not needed.

Once you have your garage properly organized, the best way to avoid it returning into a jumbled mess is to make sure that you put everything back to where you found it. And it only takes a few extra minutes to properly return a tool back to a mini self storage bin, or a shovel into a tool rack. Those few minutes can mean the difference of hours of cleaning in the long run. You’ve already gone through the trouble of cleaning up, you might as well go the extra mile and keep it that way.
